Similarly, the public and critics also take no notice of the poor or mediocre writer, painter, musician, etc. Thus, our self-delusion -- even though we occupy a basement-level tier of the creative pyramid, we tell ourselves our problem isn't that our work sucks or that no one knows about it it but that our genius is just too goddamned big for most people to understand."

"You'll be dead one day, and it may not actually be that far off. If you write something, and even just leave it in a journal in the back of your closet, someone might find it one day and read it and understand what you were talking about, think about their life, think about how they're going to die pretty soon, too."
